There is no question that one of my favorite days was last night. My birthday, Christmas, 4th of July, then MET gala. It is such a night of opulence, glamour, and refined beauty. This year the theme is Charlies James: Beyond Fashion.
“Charles James considered himself an artist, and approached fashion with a sculptor’s eye and a scientist’s logic,” said Mr. Campbell. “As such, the Met is the ideal place to explore the rich complexity of his innovative work.” So in laymen’s terms BALL GOWNS!!!!! I am always so anxious to see who goes big with couture fashion or takes the easy, modest road. There are soooooo many celebs to discuss so I’ll choose my top 20. There was a lot of sheer fabric, midriffs (which I wasn’t a fan of for this event) dresses that needed a good steam and good ole Cinderella moments! Here are my thoughts on what we saw last night.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta
I love her. Just a ball gown with the designer’s name in script on the bottom. What a way to put your vote on a designer. (Ala Hunger Games).
David and Victoria Beckham both in Ralph Lauren
Ohhhh boo. This would be perfect for any other red carpet. I wish Posh had whipped up a updo and thrown on a ballgown.
Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa
UTTER. PERFECTION.
This dress actually has flower pieces stemming from the dress. Breathtaking.
Christy Teigan and John Legend both in Ralph Lauren
Great color on Christy but she looks alittle Miss USA for me vs Hollywood Starlette.
Rachel McAdams in Ralph Lauren
COME ON!!!!!!!
THIS IS SO BORING I’M JUST MAD. MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I TELL YOU!!!!
Tabitatha Simmons
I don’t know you Tabitha but I would totally wear this dress. I appreciate this nod to art. Excellent choice for a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Kristen Wiig in Alexander Wang
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this look. I will let her get away with pants because the structure of this blouse is impeccably tailored. Good job Mr. Wang.
Ivanka Trump
I am mesmerized by this fabric. It feels like tapestry I want to be wrapped up in forever.
Rosie Huntington Whiteley in Balman
Obviously Rosie got her invites confused from last year when the theme was punk. Great dress- wrong occasion. #BallGownPlease
Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera
J’adore! See when I heard this theme I envisioned Carolina. This floral print is completely an attention getter.
Michelle Williams
Bleh. Next
Arizona Muse in Zac Posen
COMPLETELY PERFECT.
Karen Elson
Stunning. One of my favorites of the night.
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
You are definitely giving me Josephine Baker tonight. But how can you be mad at Lupita when she always takes such risks?!?! She is still the fashion world’s sweetheart and People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Person.
Nicole Richie in Donna Karan
I guess this is her new thing…to match her hair to her dress (last year she wore a white dress with white hair). This isn’t as much as a statement the second time around.
Worst Dressed: Sandra Lee
She honestly looks like a Disney Princess. Why??!?!? The fabric with the opera length gloves are just soooo soooo wrong.
Katie Holmes
And this is why I like the internet. Hilarious.
Other thoughts – Rihanna looked like Halle Berry circa 1995s. I did not like anyone who wore a short dress. Blake Lively looked delicious. Beyoncé- not my favorite look. Kendall Jenner- Top Shop- interesting designer’s choice.
I hope you loved my recap. Please message below and tell me your favorites hits and misses! Thanks for reading lovelies.
